ETA calculation sucks in every OS

Why is it ALWAYS that the ETA calculation sucks.. On Windows machines within a second it goes to 99% and the last 1% takes an hour.. When i saw this on my OSX machine the one thing that popped into my mind was "sigh.. coffee??"
